Authors: Qunce Gao, Cinematography Institute of Mongolia, Mongolian Government University of Culture and Arts, Ulan-Bator, Mongolia

Keywords: Cultural transfer; artistic reception; Western European art; Eastern visual culture; Chinese calligraphy; visual hybridity; transcultural dialogue.

This article explores the mechanisms and dynamics of cultural transfer and artistic reception in the process of Western European art entering the visual culture of the East. It examines historical pathways through which European artistic forms were introduced, adapted, and visually interpreted within different Eastern contexts from the 19th century to the present day. The study pays particular attention to the visual negotiation between imported Western aesthetics and indigenous artistic traditions, including Chinese calligraphy. Calligraphy is discussed as one of the key mediums reflecting the Eastern response to Western visual influence, showcasing both continuity and transformation within intercultural dialogue. By combining theoretical perspectives with selected case studies, this research contributes to a deeper understanding of visual hybridity and transcultural artistic reception.
