The article examines the crisis of ideology and the problem of a new metanarrative in contemporary social and political philosophy. The relevance of the topic is determined by the erosion of confidence in the grand ideologies of modernity, the fragmentation of regimes of legitimation, and the growing competition among projects of universality. The purpose of the study is to compare Western and decolonial responses to the question of whether a new common language can connect knowledge, political order, and collective action. To achieve this goal, the paper differentiates between metanarrative, legitimation, and universality; analyzes Western projects of renewed universality and decolonial approaches; and interprets empirical indicators of the crisis of legitimation and epistemic asymmetry. The methodological framework combines postmodern critique of metanarratives, communicative universalism, post-Marxist theory of hegemony, ecological political ontology, and decolonial concepts such as epistemologies of the South, the pluriverse, transmodernity, coloniality of power, and necropolitics. The study shows that projects of the universal cannot be understood as a restoration of a grand narrative: Western theory more often describes the situation as an internal crisis of modernity, whereas decolonial thought stresses the historical entanglement of universalism with coloniality. As a result, the article proposes the concept of a reflexive weak metanarrative understood as a framework of translation between different forms of knowledge and collective experience rather than a total philosophy of history. It is concluded that this weak and reflexive form of universality is the most adequate response to the current phase of the crisis of ideology.
