Authors: Mamedova Leyla Eldar, PhD Economics, Associate Professor, Lesnik Philip Mikhailovich, Postgraduate student, Saint-Petersburg State Marine Technical University, Saint-Petersburg

Keywords: enterprises; competition; competitiveness; competitiveness evaluation; competitive analysis.

The article discusses the key theoretical provisions of the competitiveness of enterprises and the main approaches to its evaluation. The theory of resource use, the theory of strategic conflict, the theory of dynamic capabilities, as well as the main categories of methods in the framework of competitiveness assessment are considered; methods such as benchmarking, Porter's five forces analysis, and value chain analysis are discussed individually. In addition, the history of the development of competitiveness in Russia is briefly presented. Results: it was revealed that the competitiveness of an enterprise is a complex and multidimensional concept; there are both different conceptual approaches to its interpretation at the theoretical level, and various methodological approaches to its assessment at the practical level. In Russia, competitiveness as an economic and corporate component of enterprise activity began to be actively studied only at the end of the 20th century, however, the contradictory but rapid development of the Russian economy contributed to the development of competition both theoretically and practically.
