The reasons for the formation of humanistic gerontology: a socio-philosophical aspect

Authors: Pashina Lyudmila Alexandrovna, PhD of Philosophical science, Associate Professor, Siberian State Industrial University, Novokuznetsk; doctoral student, National Research Tomsk State University, Tomsk

Keywords: aging; age; the meaning of aging; the value of old age; humanistic gerontology; interpretative turn; the history of humanistic gerontology.

The purpose of the study is to expand the socio-philosophical understanding of the phenomena of old age and aging by referring to the knowledge and methodology of humanistic gerontology, which largely guides the search for the actual meaning and value of the late life stage in postmodern reality. The scientific novelty of the study, on the one hand, consists in an attempt to indicate the reasons that caused the need for the formation of postmodern ideas about aging, based on humanitarian knowledge, the experience of art and religion; on the other hand, it consists in substantiating the relevance of an interdisciplinary approach that does not establish value boundaries between different scientific cultures, the experience of art and religious practices for the formation of a comprehensive a gerontological theory combining both internal and external experiences of aging. As a result, the idea is confirmed that the view of humanistic gerontology contributes to the enrichment of socio-philosophical knowledge about old age and aging
